Gravity

planet venus

Willing you to be mine seems futile
Given the vast acres between us, still
There is so much room here
For something to thrive

Wanting you near me seems idle
Since the best parts of you
Already grow here, luscious
Like a tropical rainforest
Pervading the space, expanding
Nicely around my equator
Covering the fertile land, stretching
From your country to mine

Want is akin to those in need
I have no need for you anymore

Even though our green has turned
Into an arid desert
I recall, with passion, the spirit
Of your scorching sun

I’m waiting for an eruption
A powerful cosmic collision to recharge
The organic elements, restoring
The classic flora and fauna
Native to this dormant planet
I’m longing for my star’s gravity
To pull me into its orbit
