Bloom

opening bud
It was wound up into a medium size ball
Its molecules packed tightly like sardines
Repeatedly smashing into the interior partition
Trying to find a way out
Its outer shell was generously padded with duck tape
And cotton fibers to protect its crystalline membrane
From the raw elements infused in the air
It wiggled constantly to free itself
Its skin fragile, like that of the wings of a moth
Surprisingly delicate to the touch
Ripping quietly with every sudden move
It struggled inside the cool confines of its personal cell
Night after night, huffing and puffing for carbons
Swelling towards the warm glow of the invading sun
Never tiring of the invisible range
Itching to strip the layers which weighed it down
Until finally a tiny hole appeared inside its vital muscle
Loosening the threads that held it captive
One by one, they fell to the ground in a pile of ribbons
Ushering light into the burnt fragments of its existence
As atmosphere spread inside its natural pattern
Expanding effortlessly into every hidden nook and cranny
It opened up briskly like an early morning flower
And revealed its beating face to the sky

I enjoy reading your poems every day! “Look at us, said the violets blooming at her feet, all last winter we slept in the seeming death but at the right time God awakened us, and here we are to comfort you.” from one a poster that is in our office 🙂
